A law firm is seeking a Mid-Level Product Design and User Interface / Patent Agent with a technical background in physics, electrical engineering, or computer science. This role requires candidates to handle patent preparation and prosecution in cutting-edge technology areas, including software, AI, networking, and quantum technologies. Candidates must demonstrate strong legal and engineering expertise and exceptional communication and writing skills. This position will involve working with inventors, engineers, and patent examiners to secure patent protection for innovative products and technologies.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepared and prosecuted patent applications in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and internationally.
  • Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and clients to understand new product designs, user interfaces, and technical concepts for patent protection.
  • Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and infringement analyses.
  • Assist in patent portfolio management and strategy for clients in various industries, focusing on cutting-edge technologies such as AI, IoT, networking, and quantum computing.
  • Conduct prior art searches and patent landscape analyses to advise clients on patent filing strategies.
  • Draft and negotiate licensing agreements for clients related to patented technologies.
  • Support litigation and enforcement of patent rights, providing technical insights and expertise when needed.
  • Stay updated on patent law changes, technological advancements, and relevant industry standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Proven experience working in a law firm, engineering, or industry setting.
  • Extensive experience in software-related technologies, artificial intelligence, IoT, networking, or quantum technologies.
  • JD (Juris Doctor) and admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) are required.
  • Solid academic achievement, including a degree in physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field (required).
  • JD (required).

Certifications

  • Admission to the USPTO (required).

Skills

  • Exceptional technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in analyzing patent claims and drafting patent applications.
