Job Overview:
A well-established law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Agent to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates with a background in electrical engineering, software, or mechanical engineering, who are interested in contributing to the firm’s thriving patent prosecution and litigation practice. The successful candidate will be involved in drafting patent applications, working closely with clients, and managing intellectual property portfolios.

Duties:

• Draft patent applications and prosecute patents before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Handle a variety of patent prosecution matters, including client counseling, office action responses, and appeals.
• Collaborate with engineers and inventors to understand technical concepts and prepare accurate patent filings.
• Assist in patent litigation matters and work with cross-disciplinary teams to strategize on intellectual property protection.
• Advise clients on patentability, infringement, and licensing matters.
• Stay up-to-date on patent law and best practices to ensure effective representation of clients.

Requirements:

• 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, with a focus on electrical engineering, software, or mechanical engineering.
• Strong knowledge of patent law and the application process.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases.

Education:

• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a closely related field.

Certifications:

• Must be registered to practice before the USPTO.

Skills:

• Strong technical background and understanding of complex engineering concepts.
• High-level written communication skills, including drafting clear and concise patent documents.
• Strong analytical skills to evaluate patentability and infringement issues.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
