Job Overview:
A well-established law firm is seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Attorney to join its Chicago, IL office. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in defending workers' compensation cases, with a strong focus on legal research, case preparation, and litigation. Location:

  • Chicago, IL

Duties:

  • Gather and review medical evidence and medical records
  • Take depositions of claimants, physicians, medical experts, and other parties
  • Conduct discovery and perform legal research
  • Stay current with developments in workers' compensation law
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, findings of fact, opinions, and other legal documents
  • Litigate workers' compensation cases before an administrative law judge
  • Represent the interests of employers or insurers at hearings, trials, mediations, and other proceedings
  • Communicate regularly with claims representatives
  • Monitor loss run reports for trends and alert management to concerns
  • Assist in accident investigations and identifying potential risks
  • Manage workers' compensation costs to reduce liability
  • Compile and submit required reports to management
  • Coordinate and attend claims reviews
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of insurers or employers
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • J.D. and proof of admission to the Illinois Bar (additional bar admissions in other Midwest states a plus)
  • 5+ years of experience in workers' compensation defense
  • Strong knowledge of legal principles, practices, and state/federal laws
  • Proficiency in legal research techniques and legal terminology
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Outlook; Perfect Law software experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Firm and client confidentiality required

Education:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice in Illinois (additional Midwest state bar licenses are a plus)

Skills:

  • Expertise in workers' compensation defense law
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and drafting skills
  • Strong communication and client management skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
