Job Overview

A leading global law firm is seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel to provide strategic risk-based counseling on global employment law matters. This position involves collaborating closely with business leaders, HR professionals, and legal teams across multiple jurisdictions. The role focuses on a variety of employment-related issues, including recruiting, hiring, benefits, compensation, performance management, and workplace-related grievances. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in employment law counseling and litigation, including in-house experience at a multinational law firm or corporation.

Duties

  • Serve as a primary resource for business leaders and HR professionals on multi-jurisdictional employment issues, including recruiting, hiring, compensation, performance management, and termination

  • Provide legal support for the development of workplace policies and processes regarding compensation, benefits, conduct, discipline, and performance

  • Draft key employee and partner agreements, including offer letters, employment agreements, independent contractor agreements, partnership agreements, and other related documents

  • Provide counsel on global workplace-related grievances, pre-litigation claims, and litigation, including investigations, risk assessments, issue resolution, and proactive issue prevention

  • Select and manage relevant outside counsel, ensuring results are obtained within budgetary guidelines

  • Collaborate with professionals across the firm to utilize their expertise when needed

  • Identify and implement process improvements in line with firm strategy, market factors, and best practices

  • Stay current on legal issues affecting the firm through continuing legal education and bar/professional association memberships

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited institution

  • Admission to the state bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

  • Minimum of 10 years of legal practice experience in employment counseling and litigation

  • Extensive experience with U.S. employment laws and regulations, including related claims and litigation

  • In-house experience at a multi-national law firm or corporation is beneficial

  • Experience conducting and supervising internal investigations related to employment matters, including managing electronic discovery

  • Proven ability to draft various workplace agreements and policies

  • Experience managing litigation, including overseeing outside counsel

  • Leadership skills and experience managing projects and teams

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution

Certifications

  • Admission to the state bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. employment laws

  • Strong legal writing and drafting skills

  • Proven experience in investigations and electronic discovery
