Job Overview: A law firm in Muskegon, MI, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Family Law Litigation Attorney to join its team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in litigation and family law, a strong ability to handle complex legal issues, and exceptional client service. The role requires excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills and a commitment to achieving favorable outcomes for clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend in-person and virtual hearings, status conferences, mediations, depositions, and trials as directed.
  • Negotiate settlements between parties and other attorneys.
  • Meet with clients and potential clients to understand their legal needs and effectively explain legal issues, goals, and outcomes.
  • Manage own caseload under the supervision of a senior attorney with staff support.
  • Prepare accurate and timely legal documents, including but not limited to motions, orders, interrogatories, discovery, briefs, settlements, and judgments.
  • Prepare for trials, including drafting direct and cross-examinations, preparing witnesses, and correctly entering exhibits.
  • Develop ethical and cost-effective arguments to resolve cases favorably for clients.
  • Conduct research and compile evidence for cases.

Requirements:

  • Active member in good standing of the Michigan State Bar.
  • 3-5 years of litigation experience.
  • 3-5 years of family law and mediation experience desired.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and values the importance of a strong work ethic.
  • Adaptable team player with a growth mindset.

Skills:

  • Great oral argument skills and the ability to think on your feet.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and build rapport with clients, support staff, opposing parties, opposing counsel, experts, witnesses, and court personnel.
  • Great attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions while working independently.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills necessary to prioritize competing priorities and meet all deadlines.
  • Strong research, drafting, and written communication skills.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership and good standing with the Michigan State Bar.
