Energy Associate

Job Overview:
A well-established and expanding law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its growing Energy Team. The ideal candidate will work closely with team members to support corporate and individual clients in a wide range of energy-related matters, including project development and siting, regulatory compliance, civil and administrative enforcement proceedings, and dispute resolution/litigation. Clients include electric generation facility owners, energy storage facility owners, utilities, energy service companies, and large energy users. This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule, with a preference for candidates based in Albany, NY.

Location:

• Albany, NY

Duties:

• Represent clients in regulatory matters before state and federal administrative agencies
• Plan and execute pre-application strategies, including drafting and filing application documents, and securing permits for projects before regulatory agencies
• Research and analyze federal and state statutes, agency regulations, and orders affecting regulated industries
• Draft administrative petitions, filings, comments to agencies, complaints, answers, and memoranda of law
• Prepare discovery demands and responses for administrative and litigation proceedings
• Collaborate with team members and clients to ensure effective legal strategies and successful outcomes
• Maintain a minimum of 1800 billable hours annually

Requirements:

• 1-5 years of regulatory and/or litigation experience; energy law experience preferred but not required
• Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
• Admission to the New York State Bar (or ability to waive in)
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills
• Highly organized with attention to detail
• Ability to work effectively with diverse personalities and at all organizational levels
• Military experience welcome

Education:

• Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

• Admission to the New York State Bar (or eligibility to waive in)

Skills:

• Regulatory and litigation experience, preferably in energy or related industries
• Strong legal research and writing abilities
• Drafting petitions, motions, and other legal documents
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with clients and colleagues
