Job Title: Criminal Defense Attorney

Job Location: Los Angeles, CA

Job Overview:
A well-established criminal defense law firm based in Southern California is looking to expand its legal team with a dedicated criminal defense attorney. This opportunity primarily involves handling cases in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, offering a variety of complex criminal defense responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in criminal law, a commitment to client advocacy, and the ability to manage a full caseload in the criminal court system. Bilingual abilities (Spanish) are a plus but not required.

Duties:

  • Manage a full caseload including pre-filing representation with law enforcement.
  • Represent clients in arraignments, probation revocations, sentencing, readiness conferences, and other related hearings.
  • Litigate pre-trial motions such as preliminary hearings, PC 1538.5 motions, and PC 995 motions.
  • Negotiate favorable plea agreements for clients at misdemeanor and felony readiness conferences.
  • Prepare for and conduct jury and bench trials.
  • Provide legal counsel to clients, explaining their constitutional rights and defense strategies.
  • Maintain consistent communication with clients regarding the status of their cases.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests and responses.
  • Conduct DMV hearings for DUI cases.
  • Represent clients in TRO trials for both petitioners and respondents.
  • Collaborate with prosecutors, witnesses, and experts for case development.
  • Handle post-conviction relief matters.

Requirements:

  • Active membership in the California State Bar with no disciplinary actions.
  • Criminal trial experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience handling preliminary hearings is a plus.
  • Experience in criminal defense or as a former prosecutor/public defender is highly desirable.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English is advantageous but not required.
  • Familiarity with Los Angeles and Orange County criminal courts is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active CA State Bar license.

Skills:

  • Strong courtroom presence with the ability to project confidence and professionalism.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience with plea bargaining.
  • High level of self-motivation, organization, and time management.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
