Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Criminal Defense Attorney to join its team. The ideal candidate will be self-sufficient, compassionate, and able to handle serious criminal cases, including felonies, mental health cases, and domestic violence restraining orders. Duties:

  • Handle serious criminal cases, including felonies, mental health cases, and domestic violence restraining orders.
  • Manage a caseload from start to finish, with minimal assistance, ensuring clients' needs are met throughout the legal process.
  • Provide tactical, compassionate legal representation to clients, regardless of their level of guilt.
  • Meet with clients to develop and implement strategic plans tailored to their unique circumstances.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, including negotiations, hearings, and trials.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, offering them hope and confidence in their legal outcomes.
  • Ensure clients are well-informed and supported throughout the legal process, including delivering difficult news.

Requirements:

  • Self-sufficient with the ability to manage a caseload independently.
  • Proven experience in handling serious criminal cases, including felonies, mental health issues, and domestic violence.
  • Ability to handle challenging clients and navigate complex legal scenarios.
  • Demonstrated experience in trial work and criminal defense litigation.
  • Experience working with clients from various backgrounds and understanding their needs.
  • Compassionate and tactful approach to handling clients through tough situations.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active member of the California State Bar.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and strategize in criminal defense cases.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and compassion in working with clients.
  • Ability to independently handle and manage serious felony cases.
  • Prior government experience (such as a former prosecutor or public defender) is preferred.
