Senior Criminal Defense Associate

Job Overview:
A law firm in Oakland, CA is seeking a Senior Attorney with over 7 years of criminal defense experience, specifically in felony defense. Location:

Duties:

• Advocate in court to secure the best possible outcome for clients.
• Develop legal strategies to support clients throughout the legal process.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior associates, including coaching and feedback.
• Represent the firm in case management meetings and offer insights into case strategy.
• Ensure timely filing of all legal documents and adhere to required deadlines.
• Research legal issues and draft motions for court hearings.
• Maintain respectful and professional relationships with clients.
• Arrive at work and court on time and dressed appropriately.
• Participate in regular goal-setting and performance reviews.
• Stay current on changes in the legal landscape through ongoing training and development.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in criminal defense, specifically felony defense.
• At least 10 felony jury trials and preliminary hearings.
• Strong experience in drafting and arguing motions, including post-conviction motions.
• High energy level and enthusiasm for client service and advocacy.
• Willingness to travel throughout Alameda County and the Bay Area.
• Knowledge of online case management systems.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and dedication to providing zealous client representation.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Admission to the California Bar in good standing.

Skills:

• Experience in felony defense and trial practice.
• Strong legal research, writing, and motion drafting skills.
• Excellent client service and communication skills.
• Ability to mentor junior attorneys and manage a caseload independently.
• Fluency in a second language is preferred.
