Job Title: Drafting Associate Attorney
Job Location: New York City, NY

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm specializing in landlord-tenant matters is seeking a skilled Drafting Associate Attorney to join its team. This position focuses on handling various aspects of landlord-tenant law, including drafting legal documents, client communication, and legal research. The ideal candidate will possess a strong ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks efficiently, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Duties:

  • Draft legal documents such as predicate notices, motions, oppositions, pleadings, holdover petitions, and commercial non-payment petitions.
  • Engage in extensive client communication, ensuring all client needs are met effectively and professionally.
  • Handle legal research related to landlord-tenant issues, including case law and applicable statutes.
  • Negotiate with opposing counsel to resolve matters outside of court when possible.
  • Review and request proof of repairs from clients, particularly in non-payment and HP cases.
  • Prepare and file motions, pleadings, and opposition papers on NYSCEF.
  • Utilize landlord-tenant software systems to manage case files and documentation.
  • Occasionally appear in Housing Court when required, although this is not the primary function of the role.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in landlord-tenant law, including working knowledge of relevant statutes such as the Rent Stabilization Code, Real Property Law (RPL), RPAPL, NYC Housing Maintenance Code (HMC), and HPD Violations.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities and manage time effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong writing skills, with a focus on legal document preparation and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly in client interactions.
  • Ability to appear in court as needed.
  • Must be licensed and in good standing with the New York State Bar.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership with the New York State Bar.

Skills:

  • Exceptional legal writing and research capabilities.
  • Familiarity with NYSCEF for filing motions and pleadings.
  • Proficiency in landlord-tenant law and related case management software.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with opposing counsel.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment.
