Job Overview
A well-established law firm in Midland, TX, is looking for a skilled Oil and Gas Associate Attorney. This role focuses on drafting oil and gas title opinions, and providing legal advice on land transactions, acquisitions, and regulatory matters, with a strong emphasis on compulsory pooling in New Mexico. The ideal candidate will have experience in oil and gas law, particularly title and regulatory issues, and be licensed to practice in either Texas or New Mexico.

Duties

  • Legal Advice & Documentation:
    • Prepare and deliver legal opinions and memoranda addressing oil and gas title, operational, and regulatory issues.
    • Advise on land transactions, acquisitions, leases, and related real estate matters.
  • Risk Mitigation & Compliance:
    • Identify and resolve legal risks while ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Assist in due diligence for property and title matters.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork:
    • Collaborate with internal teams, including land, operations, and finance departments, to support strategic initiatives.
    • Participate in quarterly firm-wide planning sessions and contribute to meeting individual and team goals.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Focus on delivering high-quality work while also contributing to non-billable projects that improve internal processes.

Requirements

  • Licensing:
    • Active law license in Texas or New Mexico.
    • Candidates licensed in Oklahoma, North Dakota, or Ohio may be considered with adjusted compensation.
  • Experience:
    • 2-5 years of experience in oil and gas title, transactional, or regulatory law.
    • Hands-on experience in land departments, drafting title opinions, or field land management is preferred.
  • Skills:
