Job Overview

A well-established law firm in Tysons Corner, VA, is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to support its Community Association practice group. This role involves handling a high-volume caseload of collections matters, working closely with clients, and representing community associations in legal proceedings. The ideal candidate will have experience in collections law, be licensed to practice in Virginia or Maryland, and possess strong analytical and communication skills.

Duties

  • Oversee and manage a caseload of 250-400 active collection cases from initiation to closure.
  • Collaborate with paralegals, administrative staff, and senior attorneys on collection-related legal matters.
  • Analyze client documents and draft legal opinions for review.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings across multiple jurisdictions, including enforcement of covenants and abatement cases.
  • Provide regular status updates to community association clients and their management teams.
  • Track and manage billable hours and fixed-fee collection tasks.
  • Attend client association meetings on-site, including elections and Board meetings.

Requirements

  • Active law license in Virginia or Maryland.
  • 2-4 years of experience handling collections cases for financial institutions, creditors, or similar entities.
  • Knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and post-judgment enforcement procedures.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple cases and deadlines.
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Prior experience supervising legal support staff is a plus.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to practice law in Virginia (Maryland admission is also acceptable).

Skills

  • Strong legal analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Legal project management experience is a plus.
