A law firm in Tampa, FL, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Supervising Immigration Court Attorney to play a key role in establishing and leading a growing court program. The candidate will be the primary stakeholder in creating a high-volume, nationwide court practice, managing a team of attorneys and legal support staff, and ensuring the effective execution of the practice plan.

Duties:

  • Establish and lead a growing court program to serve a nationwide client base, particularly Spanish-speaking undocumented immigrants.
  • Act as the key stakeholder in establishing a high-volume, nationwide court practice.
  • Collaborate with operationally focused attorneys and staff to create procedures, processes, and best practices for the immigration court team.
  • Manage and supervise the immigration court team, including attorneys and paralegals.
  • Set goals and effectively manage team workloads.
  • Oversee the development of templates for legal briefs and drafts as a foundation for immigration court filings.
  • Train and supervise team members to ensure adherence to procedures and best practices.
  • Collect and report team data, progress, and needs to legal team leadership.
  • Represent clients in removal proceedings and draft/edit legal documents.
  • Develop and maintain a network of contract attorneys to provide coverage nationwide.
  • Stay informed about legislative, regulatory, administrative, and case law changes.
  • Some travel may be required to various offices for team training and supervision.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-approved law school.
  • An active member in good standing of a State Bar.
  • 5+ years of experience in immigration court and removal proceedings, including filing with EOIR.
  • 2+ years of managerial experience.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish and English.
  • Experience managing and motivating a team of attorneys and legal support staff in a positive and collaborative team environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-approved law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in good standing with a State Bar.

Skills:

  • Leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Legal research and drafting proficiency.
  • Knowledge of immigration court procedures and best practices.
  • Flexibility for occasional travel.
