A law firm seeks a Municipal Law Associate with 3-5 years of experience in transactional municipal law to join its dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in advising public agencies on a wide range of legal issues, including land use, open meetings laws, and public safety matters. This position offers flexibility with remote work options, but candidates should be prepared to participate in public meetings and travel as necessary. Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel to public agency clients on matters such as land use, zoning, public safety, election law, and conflicts of interest.
  • Draft and review ordinances, resolutions, and other legal documents.
  • Advise on open meeting laws, public disclosure regulations, and free speech issues.
  • Assist clients with navigating complex regulatory environments, including compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Represent public agencies in legal proceedings and administrative hearings.
  • Support clients in election law matters, including candidate qualification, ballot measures, and campaign finance issues.
  • Attend and advise clients during public meetings, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and clients to address a variety of municipal legal issues.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in municipal transactional law.
  • Experience in drafting ordinances and resolutions, land use, public safety, and conflicts of interest.
  • Proven ability to advise clients on open meeting laws and other public agency legal matters.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in California.
  • Ability to handle complex legal issues and interact effectively with public agency clients.
  • Comfortable attending and providing legal advice during public meetings.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the State Bar of California.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of municipal law, including land use, open meeting laws, and election law.
  • Strong drafting skills for legal documents, ordinances, and resolutions.
  • Effective legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
