Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications, including medical and mechanical devices and basic electrical technology-related applications.
  • Conduct prior art searches and analyze patentability.
  • Provide legal opinions on patentability, infringement, and validity.
  • Prepare and file responses to Office Actions from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of patent strategies.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their needs and provide strategic advice.
  • Manage patent portfolios and provide ongoing support to clients.
  • Stay current with technological advancements and legal changes in intellectual property law.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of patent prosecution experience.
  • Membership in the Patent Bar.
  • Educational background in cell or molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, cancer biology, pharmacology, biophysics, digital health-focused disciplines, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or chemical engineering.
  • Experience drafting and prosecuting medical device, mechanical, and basic electrical technology-related patent applications.
  • Preference for additional experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, chemical compositions, and software.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline; advanced degree preferred.

Certifications:

  • Registered Patent Agent with the USPTO.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of patent law and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in patent search and analysis tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
