A law firm seeks a skilled and motivated Defense Litigation Associate to join its team, specializing in general liability defense for various clients. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of first-chair deposition and courtroom experience, particularly in general/premises liability and product liability matters. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney seeking to expand their expertise in a wide range of legal areas, including medical and life sciences, toxic torts, professional liability, and more. Duties:

  • Take and defend depositions for clients in general/premises liability and product liability matters.
  • Research complex legal, medical, and scientific issues and collaborate with senior attorneys to develop strategies.
  • Draft memoranda, motions (including motions for summary judgment), pleadings, discovery, and other complex legal documents.
  • Prepare detailed reports to clients, including case analysis reports, medical record analyses, deposition summaries, and case valuations.
  • Work with expert witnesses and coordinate expert testimony in preparation for trial.
  • Participate in trial preparation, mediation, and ADR processes.
  • Represent clients at courtroom appearances, including arguing motions and participating in discovery conferences.
  • Maintain a minimum billable hour requirement of 1900 hours annually.

Requirements:

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in general/premises liability and/or product liability matters, with significant first-chair deposition and courtroom experience.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar (New Jersey admission is a plus).
  • Familiarity and experience with New York Courts is required.
  • Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines effectively and work independently.
  • Must have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work well within a team-oriented environment.
  • A positive, professional attitude and the ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Military experience is welcome but not required.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • An active member of the New York State Bar (New Jersey Bar membership is a plus).
