Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage global patent prosecution efforts, focusing on life sciences and biotech.
  • Provide expert legal opinions on patent-related issues including validity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate.
  • Handle licensing agreements and negotiate contracts related to intellectual property.
  • Develop and implement strategic IP portfolios for clients in the biotech and pharma industries.
  • Offer strategic counsel to clients on IP matters, including risk assessment and commercialization strategies.
  • Represent clients in negotiations, disputes, and litigation involving intellectual property rights.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships, with an emphasis on leveraging existing portable business.
  • Mentor and supervise junior attorneys and support staff, providing guidance on complex IP issues.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, developments in intellectual property law, and advancements in life sciences.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law in the state of Minnesota.
  • PhD in biological sciences preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in intellectual property law, with a focus on life sciences and biotech.
  • Demonstrated expertise in global patent prosecution, counseling, and licensing.
  • Small amount of portable business is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) required.
  • PhD in biological sciences preferred.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Minnesota.

Skills:

  • Superior academic record and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of patent prosecution and intellectual property counseling.
  • Strong background in life sciences, particularly in biotech.
  • Experience with pharma and biotech industries is preferred.
