A respected law firm in San Jose, CA is seeking an Entry-Level Immigration Attorney to join its immigration practice. This position offers an exceptional opportunity for a recent law graduate or newly licensed attorney to gain practical experience in a fast-paced legal environment. The role focuses on removal defense and family-based immigration work, and provides mentorship, hands-on case management, and exposure to courtroom proceedings.

Duties

  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals

  • Conduct intake interviews with detained and non-detained individuals, including on-site visits to detention facilities

  • Explain immigration processes and options to clients

  • Prepare and review immigration filings including family-based petitions, waivers, and defensive applications

  • Draft motions, legal briefs, and supporting documentation for court and USCIS submissions

  • Develop legal strategies tailored to individual client needs

  • Prepare clients and witnesses for court appearances and USCIS interviews

  • Consult with potential clients and assess eligibility for relief

  • Collaborate with legal support staff, attorneys, and external community partners

  • Stay informed about updates in immigration law and policy

Requirements

  • Demonstrated interest in immigration law through law school clinics, internships, or volunteer work

  • Ability to manage a growing caseload with guidance from senior attorneys

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Willingness to collaborate in a team-oriented environment

  • Experience with case management software preferred

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in any U.S. state (candidates awaiting bar results or recently admitted may be considered)
