Job Overview: A law firm in New York City is seeking a motivated Junior to Mid-Level Tax Controversy and Litigation Associate Attorney to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have 3-6 years of experience in federal large case controversy, preferably from a large law firm or Big Four accounting firm, with a strong background in handling complex IRS matters involving multinationals.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in tax controversy matters before the IRS and state tax authorities.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis related to tax issues, including transfer pricing concepts.
  • Draft legal memoranda, pleadings, motions, and other litigation-related documents.
  • Assist in resolving tax disputes through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  • Provide strategic tax advice to corporate entities and partnerships facing IRS audits or disputes.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and partners on case strategy and client representation.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar (or ability to waive in).
  • 3-6 years of hands-on experience in federal tax controversy and litigation, preferably in a large law firm or Big Four accounting firm setting.
  • Experience with IRS procedures and regulations about large corporate entities and partnerships.
  • Familiarity with IRS alternative dispute resolution processes.
  • Exceptional tax research and writing skills.

Education and Certifications:

  • LLM in Taxation preferred.
  • Admission to practice before the United States Tax Court is a plus.
  • Previous experience with IRS Chief Counsel or related government agency beneficial.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and tax-related software.
