A law firm is seeking a highly motivated Tech Transactions and Data Privacy (Incident Response) Associate Attorney to join its dynamic team in Kansas City, MO. This role requires immediate client interaction and the handling of sophisticated legal matters related to data privacy, incident response, and compliance with federal, state, and international privacy laws. The candidate should possess superior legal writing, research, and communication skills, and be able to offer practical legal advice to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of case work-up and trial preparation for privacy litigation cases.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and draft legal documents including briefs, complaints, pretrial motions, memoranda, and discovery requests.
  • Advise clients on data privacy issues, regulatory compliance, and incident response strategies, providing practical and actionable guidance.
  • Work closely with clients on sophisticated data privacy matters, offering solutions that align with their business goals and legal obligations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and international privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, and other emerging data protection regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, risk management, and compliance, to address client needs related to cybersecurity and privacy incidents.
  • Provide timely and effective communication with clients and other stakeholders during all phases of case management.
  • Stay up-to-date on evolving privacy laws, cybersecurity threats, and best practices in incident response.
  • Assist in developing privacy policies, protocols, and training programs for clients.
  • Participate in business development activities, including client pitches and industry networking events.

Requirements:

  • Significant litigation experience, with a focus on privacy litigation and data privacy matters.
  • Proven ability to manage all elements of case work-up, trial preparation, and courtroom proceedings.
  • Extensive legal research and writing experience, with a demonstrated ability to draft high-quality legal documents.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with federal, state, and international privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and other privacy-related regulations.
  • Ability to provide practical, solution-oriented legal advice to clients in fast-paced environments.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and precision in legal writing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Must be admitted to practice law in Missouri or eligible for admission.
