Defense Litigation Associate Attorney - Asbestos

Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm based in New York City is looking to expand its Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team by adding an experienced Defense Litigation Associate. This role will focus on asbestos litigation and involves representing asbestos defendants across various industries in both state and federal courts nationwide. The position offers a collaborative work environment with opportunities for involvement in high-profile cases and an ability to work across offices with attorneys nationwide. This is a hybrid remote position based in New York City, NY.

Duties:

  • Regularly take and defend depositions in asbestos-related matters
  • Research legal issues and collaborate with senior attorneys to develop proactive defense strategies
  • Manage cases through resolution, including dismissal, settlement, motion practice, or trial
  • Draft legal memoranda, pleadings, motions, and other court documents
  • Represent clients during courtroom appearances and conferences
  • Collaborate with co-counsel in various jurisdictions for multi-state litigation
  • Meet a minimum of 1,900 billable hours annually

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of deposition and courtroom experience in toxic tort matters, with a preference for specific asbestos defense experience
  • Must be admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey
  • Ability to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences, including overnight trips when necessary
  • Proficiency with video conferencing tools like Zoom and MS Teams
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex legal matters and manage competing priorities
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Strong organizational, research, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Professional, positive, and flexible attitude
  • Military experience is a plus

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey

Skills:

  • Expertise in deposition-taking and courtroom advocacy
  • Strong legal research and writing capabilities
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new information and rapidly changing priorities
  • High level of organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in legal technology tools, including Zoom, MS Teams, and other video conferencing platforms
