A law firm seeks a Senior Immigration Attorney to join its team in San Jose, CA. Duties:

  • Provide strategic legal counsel and explain complex immigration concepts to clients.
  • Represent both detained and non-detained individuals in immigration court and before the Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Manage a caseload efficiently, ensuring timely processing of all cases.
  • Conduct client intakes, including visiting detained individuals at centers for case assessments.
  • Prepare and file a variety of immigration applications, including removal defense, family-based petitions, and humanitarian cases.
  • Review immigration applications to ensure accuracy and completeness, making necessary adjustments as needed.
  • Work closely with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community organizations to address changes in immigration law.
  • Lead strategic consultations with potential clients to assess their immigration needs and determine the best course of action.
  • Develop case strategies, and prepare clients and witnesses for court and USCIS testimony.
  • Provide legal analysis to identify case advantages and determine optimal legal strategies.
  • Draft and submit legal briefs on behalf of clients across a range of immigration matters.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in immigration law.
  • Proven ability to manage a substantial caseload while ensuring timely progress.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success in advancing legal cases and delivering client results.
  • Expertise in family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, EOIR, detained cases, citizenship applications, and other USCIS processes.
  • Experience with case management software is preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in the state of California.

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in good standing with the state of California.

Skills:

  • High-level analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus but not required.
  • Team-oriented with a willingness to collaborate with colleagues across the firm.
