A law firm seeks a Biotechnology Patent Agent with extensive experience in patent counseling, preparation, and prosecution, particularly within the field of biotechnology. This role is located in Washington, DC, and the ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of biological sciences and patent law to contribute to the firm's growing intellectual property team.

Duties:

  • Provide comprehensive patent counseling services, including domestic and international patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Draft and file patent applications related to biotechnology and similar fields.
  • Conduct thorough patent research and assist in preparing patent opinions.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and professionals on patent strategy and IP portfolio management.
  • Engage with clients to provide strategic advice on patent-related matters.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in patent preparation, prosecution, and patent counseling.
  • Previous experience in both domestic and international patent applications is required.
  • Familiarity with drafting patent opinions related to biotechnology or a similar technological field.

Education:

  • A Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related discipline in the biological sciences.

Certifications:

  • Must possess a USPTO registration number.

Skills:

  • Strong legal writing and research capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a patent portfolio.
  • A high degree of academic achievement, coupled with law firm experience, is strongly preferred.
