A law firm seeks a skilled and motivated Associate Attorney with 2+ years of experience in Workers’ Compensation and Employers’ Liability to join its McLean, VA office. This role focuses on defending employers, including restaurants and retail establishments, against workers' compensation claims and general liability disputes. The attorney will represent clients in both state and federal courts, as well as before administrative tribunals. The position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of cases, including toxic torts, premises liability, motor vehicle-related injuries, and commercial liability disputes. A flexible, hybrid work schedule is available, with the advantage of a paperless office environment.

Duties:

  • Represent employers in the defense of workers’ compensation and liability claims in state and federal courts.
  • Handle administrative tribunal proceedings related to workers' compensation.
  • Defend product manufacturers in toxic tort claims and corporations in premises liability and general commercial liability disputes.
  • Work on cases involving insured entities and their employees in motor vehicle-related property and bodily injury claims.
  • Conduct legal research to address complex legal issues and support case strategies.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, responses, and other legal documents in a timely manner.
  • Handle court appearances, client meetings, and depositions.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, providing case updates and strategic advice.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues and support staff to manage high-volume caseloads.

Requirements:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in Virginia.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • At least 2 years of experience in workers' compensation and employers' liability law.
  • Strong academic background with excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Experience in handling complex legal issues in the areas of workers' compensation and employers’ liability is preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Virginia State Bar membership.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage high volumes of cases and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
