Job Title: Patent Agent/Tech Advisor

Job Overview: A law firm located in Washington, DC is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Patent Agent/Tech Advisor with substantive industry experience. The ideal candidate will possess a degree in materials, chemical, mechanical, or biomedical engineering (or a related field) and have at least one year of law firm experience. Knowledge across a broad range of disciplines within chemical engineering or material science is essential.

Duties:

  • Conduct prior art database searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses.
  • Analyze patent and scientific documents to assist patent attorneys in prosecution, counseling, and litigation.
  • Draft patent applications and responses to office actions.

Requirements:

  • At least 1 year of law firm experience.
  • Registered US patent agent or eligible to sit for the USPTO registration exam.
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Initiative and ability to learn quickly.

Education:

  • Degree in materials, chemical, mechanical, or biomedical engineering (or a related field).

Certifications:

  • Must be a registered US patent agent or eligible to take the USPTO registration exam.
