Job Overview:
A global law firm is seeking a Patent Attorney to join its Intellectual Property group. The ideal candidate will have experience in patent prosecution, particularly in semiconductors or software technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. The role offers significant responsibility with direct client contact and provides an excellent opportunity for professional growth. Applicants should have the ability to work independently and as part of a team while managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Location:

  • Phoenix, AZ

Duties:

  • Interview inventors and draft patent applications.
  • Prosecute patent applications, including overcoming rejections under 35 U.S.C. §101.
  • Provide legal counsel to clients on patent matters, especially in semiconductor and software technologies.
  • Handle patent filings related to AI, machine learning, and other advanced technologies.
  • Engage in direct client interactions and contribute to developing client strategies.
  • Assume substantial responsibility and assist in mentoring junior attorneys.

Requirements:

  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent Office (USPTO).
  • 1-4 years of experience in patent prosecution, including drafting and overcoming rejections.
  • Experience with semiconductor or software-related patents, particularly in AI/ML.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Law firm experience is highly preferred.

Education:

  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • A technical degree is preferred.

Certifications:

  • USPTO Registration (required).

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent law and prosecution.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor or software-related patent matters.
  • Strong drafting, interviewing, and client communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
