Job Overview:

A respected law firm based in Charlotte, NC is seeking a dedicated and experienced attorney to join its intellectual property practice group. This opportunity is ideal for a mid-level legal professional who thrives in a dynamic, high-stakes environment and brings a refined focus on patent-related transactions. The role offers consistent exposure to complex licensing and acquisition deals, working alongside senior legal professionals on a wide array of IP-centric business matters.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on patent acquisition strategies, ownership structuring, and technology transfers

  • Draft, negotiate, and review patent licenses, joint development agreements, and related documents

  • Support M&A transactions with focused IP due diligence and integration strategies

  • Assist in developing strategic frameworks for clients managing patent portfolios

  • Collaborate with cross-functional legal teams on IP-intensive commercial agreements

  • Contribute to internal knowledge development and mentoring of junior associates when applicable

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of legal experience in patent law, with a strong emphasis on IP transactions

  • Robust understanding of U.S. patent regulations and transactional IP issues

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex deal structures and multiple stakeholders

  • Proficient in both autonomous and collaborative legal work environments

  • Admission to the North Carolina State Bar is preferred, or willingness to gain admission

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active Bar license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Skills:

  • Advanced legal research and drafting capabilities

  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and organizational abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills

  • Adaptability in a fast-paced transactional practice

  • Familiarity with patent portfolio valuation and risk assessment techniques
