Job Overview

A law firm is seeking an experienced attorney to join its Litigation Department as Special Counsel, with a focus on complex construction litigation. This is a full-time, non-partner track role located in Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, or Tampa. The attorney will handle multi-party construction defect matters and will be expected to work autonomously. This position is ideal for an individual with strong litigation experience who is self-motivated and has a passion for construction law.

Duties

  • Manage and lead multi-party construction defect litigation matters
  • Conduct legal research, draft substantive dispositive motions, and prepare pleadings
  • Handle discovery processes, including depositions and document review
  • Represent clients in court, arbitration, and other dispute resolution forums
  • Assist in trial preparation and participation in evidentiary hearings
  • Advise clients on construction law matters, including insurance risk transfer for property damage claims
  • Coordinate with senior attorneys on case strategy and management
  • Ensure timely communication and updates with clients throughout the litigation process

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of litigation experience, with a focus on construction defect and complex litigation
  • Experience in courtroom and arbitration proceedings
  • Proven track record of conducting discovery, drafting dispositive motions, and handling depositions
  • At least some experience in trial or evidentiary hearings
  • Knowledge of insurance risk transfer issues in construction and property damage claims
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex cases

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active member in good standing with the Florida Bar
  • Board Certification in Construction Law by the Florida Bar (preferred)

  • Strong oral advocacy and courtroom or arbitration experience
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and document drafting skills
  • Ability to manage multiple complex litigation cases
  • In-depth understanding of insurance risk transfer issues
