A law firm seeks a Biotechnology Patent Agent with a specialized focus on biotechnology, chemical, and pharmaceutical patent matters. The candidate will work closely with legal professionals and clients to assist in patent preparation, prosecution, and advisory services. This position is based in Madison and offers an opportunity to contribute to a leading intellectual property practice.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications, both domestically and internationally, related to biotechnology and related fields.
  • Provide strategic patent counseling and advice on intellectual property protection.
  • Prepare patent opinions and engage with clients to offer tailored IP solutions.
  • Assist in managing intellectual property portfolios, offering strategic guidance on patent-related matters.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support overall IP strategy and portfolio management.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent preparation, prosecution, and patent counseling, specifically in biotechnology.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting both domestic and international patent applications.
  • Prior experience preparing patent opinions is preferred.

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related biological science discipline.

Certifications:

  • Must be registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple patent portfolios and provide strategic advice.
  • High academic achievement and prior experience in a law firm setting are highly desirable.
