General Liability Attorney

Job Overview:
A dynamic and growing Midwestern law firm is seeking an experienced General Liability Attorney to join its team in Chicago. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in defending general liability and civil claims, with strong analytical and litigation skills. Location:

• Chicago, IL

Duties:

• Gather and analyze medical evidence and medical records
• Depose plaintiffs, physicians, experts, and other parties/witnesses
• Conduct discovery and perform legal research
• Stay current with developments in the law
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, findings of fact, opinions, and other legal documents
• Represent clients or insurers at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, and other proceedings
• Assist with the investigation and analysis of accidents and potential claims
• Compile and submit required reports to management
• Coordinate and attend claims reviews
• Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients and insurance carriers
• Research and draft pleadings and motions
• Attend court appearances and handle other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• J.D. (Juris Doctor) and proof of admission to the Illinois bar
• 3+ years of experience in general liability and civil claims defense
• Strong working knowledge of legal principles, practices, and local, state, and federal laws
• In-depth understanding of legal research techniques and legal terminology
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and legal software experience preferred
• Self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Strong commitment to client and firm confidentiality

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Admission to the Illinois State Bar
