Junior to Mid-level Business Litigation Associate Attorney

A law firm in San Diego is seeking a Junior to Mid-level Business Litigation Associate Attorney with 2+ years of recent business litigation experience from a law firm. The ideal candidate will be licensed to practice in California and will possess strong writing skills and excellent academic credentials. Experience with real estate litigation is a plus. The role involves independently managing cases, preparing complex pre-trial motions, and assisting lead trial attorneys in various litigation matters.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Review fact patterns and provide accurate analysis and recommendations.
• Analyze legal issues effectively and accurately.
• Serve as second chair on complex cases or first chair on simpler cases.
• Assist lead trial attorneys with pre-trial issues and proceedings.
• Prepare complex pre-trial motions and assist in evaluating and implementing pre-trial preparation and witness preparation.
• Handle pre-trial motions in both Federal and State courts.
• Independently manage small to modestly complex commercial cases with minimal or no supervision.
• Prepare and file motions for summary judgment.
• Prepare and conduct depositions, including taking complex deposition testimony.
• Demonstrate a breadth of experience in various substantive areas of law.
• Draft and review litigation documents accurately and clearly.
• Negotiate effectively on behalf of clients and the firm.
• Communicate effectively with clients, supervising attorneys, and other team members.
• Work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree with excellent academic credentials.
• Active license to practice law and in good standing in California.
• 2+ years of recent business litigation experience from a law firm.
• Familiarity with federal and state court procedural rules and practices.
• Experience with pre-trial motions and litigation document preparation.
• Strong case management skills and experience.
• Clear and effective drafting skills.
• Strong negotiating skills.
• Ability to learn new substantive legal topics as needed.
• Ability to provide reliable and effective legal services to clients and supervising attorneys.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Strong organizational and matter management skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Active license to practice law and in good standing in California.

Skills:

• Strong research, writing, and drafting skills.
• Proficiency in preparing and managing complex litigation documents.
• Effective negotiation and communication abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple cases and deadlines.
