A law firm is seeking a highly skilled Mid to Senior Level Tax Associate Attorney to join their Raleigh office. This position offers the opportunity to work on predominantly transactional matters, collaborating closely with the firm’s securities and finance lawyers, as well as investment bankers, financial advisors, and government officials nationwide. The role involves direct client interaction, exposure to complex transactions that benefit communities, and the potential to develop into a national specialist in selected tax fields. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in tax matters related to public finance, tax-exempt organizations, or other related tax areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with securities and finance lawyers on transactional matters.
  • Provide tax advice on public finance transactions and tax-exempt organizations.
  • Interact directly with clients, advising on complex tax issues.
  • Conduct research and analysis on various tax laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and review tax-related documents, ensuring compliance with relevant laws.
  • Liaise with investment bankers, financial advisors, and government officials.
  • Participate in negotiations and structure transactions to achieve optimal tax outcomes.
  • Stay current on changes in tax law and regulations, ensuring clients receive up-to-date advice.
  • Mentor and guide junior associates within the department.
  • Assist in the development of strategies to minimize tax liabilities for clients.

Requirements:

  • Admitted to practice law in North Carolina (or eligibility for prompt admission).
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in tax law, with a focus on public finance, tax-exempt organizations, or related tax matters.
  • Proven experience in handling complex transactional work.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state tax regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • A strong academic record, with a focus on tax law or related fields.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of North Carolina.
  • Additional certifications related to tax law (e.g., LLM in Taxation) are a plus.
