The ideal candidate will handle a variety of responsibilities related to civil rights litigation, including drafting complaints, conducting legal research, managing discovery, and preparing for trial.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough review of discovery files, including police reports and medical records from jails.
  • Draft federal and state complaints, as well as responses to discovery requests.
  • Formulate effective discovery strategies and manage case-related calendaring.
  • Research relevant case law and prepare legal memoranda on constitutional issues.
  • Prepare for law and motion practice, including drafting motions and oppositions.
  • Argue motions before state and federal courts, including ex-parte motions and motions for summary judgment.
  • Take and defend depositions as necessary.
  • Manage case deadlines effectively.

  • Experience with electronic filing systems in both state and federal courts preferred.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California State Bar.

  • Strong proficiency in conducting legal research and writing legal documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
