Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a skilled and experienced Tax Litigation Attorney to join its team in Grand Haven, MI. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in tax court litigation, significant experience in civil tax controversy, and a proven track record in both federal and state courts. This role requires a candidate with a strong capability to handle refund litigation matters, manage complex cases, and develop new business opportunities. Admission to the Michigan Bar is mandatory.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in tax court litigation, focusing on civil tax controversy matters.
  • Handle refund litigation cases from inception to resolution.
  • Manage and supervise client files and ensure effective client communication.
  • Lead and coordinate multiple cases simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships, demonstrating excellent customer service.
  • Collaborate with IRS Chief of Counsel, U.S. Attorney’s Office, and DOJ Tax Division as necessary.
  • Demonstrate business development skills, potentially bringing a portable business book with growth potential.
  • Provide strategic legal advice and guidance in complex tax disputes.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in tax court litigation, with a strong background in civil tax controversy.
  • Experience working as a trial lawyer in both federal and state courts.
  • Demonstrated experience in handling refund litigation matters.
  • Experience with the IRS Chief of Counsel, U.S. Attorney’s Office, or DOJ Tax Division is preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage complex cases, develop business, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high-quality client service.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Michigan Bar is required.
