A prominent law firm, based in San Diego, CA, is looking to hire an experienced Senior Tax Attorney to handle intricate tax disputes and litigation matters. This is a unique opportunity to work on both civil and criminal tax cases, managing high-stakes controversies with federal and state tax agencies, including the IRS and California tax entities.

Duties:

• Oversee and manage complex tax controversy and litigation cases involving the IRS and California tax agencies such as EDD, FTB, and CDTFA.
• Conduct detailed legal research, analysis, and drafting to support ongoing and complex tax matters.
• Manage a diverse caseload, ensuring timely and effective communication with clients and internal teams.
• Led and mentored associate attorneys, law clerks, and paralegals, overseeing multiple projects to deliver superior client outcomes.

Requirements:

• Minimum 7 years of experience in tax law.
• Strong expertise in handling civil and criminal tax disputes.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with multiple priorities.
• Proven track record in client management and leadership within legal teams.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school (required).
• Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation is preferred.

Certifications:

• Admission to the California Bar (required).
• CPA License and/or California Certified Tax Specialist designation are preferred.

Skills:

• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
• Excellent research, drafting, and analytical abilities.
• Strong communication and client management skills.
• Leadership capabilities to guide and mentor junior staff.
