Job Overview:
A prominent law firm, located in Washington, DC, is currently seeking a Mid-Level Tax Associate to join its Affordable Housing and Tax Credit team. The position offers an exciting opportunity to grow within a rapidly expanding team. This role is ideal for lateral associates with experience in partnership tax and federal income tax credits, who are looking to advance their careers in a dynamic and supportive environment. The firm provides a robust platform for professional development with a focus on client service.

Duties:

  • Represent both for-profit and nonprofit developers involved in the development, acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, operation, and sale of affordable multifamily housing.
  • Utilize various federal, state, and local affordable housing programs.
  • Advise clients on tax aspects related to affordable housing and tax credit transactions.
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to clients regarding partnership tax issues.
  • Collaborate with a team of professionals to deliver comprehensive legal solutions to clients across the U.S.
  • Assist in complex tax matters, focusing on compliance with relevant federal and state regulations.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in partnership tax, with a focus on federal income tax credits.
  • Proven experience with affordable housing tax credit programs.
  • Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow through on tasks.
  • Member in good standing of the DC State Bar (or ability to gain membership shortly after hire).

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting.
  • LLM in Taxation preferred.

Certifications:

  • Must be admitted to practice law in Washington, DC, or ability to obtain membership.

Skills:

  • Expertise in partnership taxation and federal income tax credits.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
