A law firm seeks a motivated and driven Associate Attorney to join their growing team in Columbia, Missouri. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior attorney looking to take on significant responsibilities and lead a team in civil litigation and insurance subrogation cases. The ideal candidate will work closely with senior partners and contribute to the expansion and success of the office, eventually stepping into a leadership role with autonomy over caseload management and team oversight.

Duties:

  • Lead the defense of clients in civil litigation and prosecute insurance subrogation cases as a plaintiff attorney.
  • Handle all aspects of case management, including preparing and arguing motions, taking depositions, and evaluating evidence.
  • Conduct independent trials and appeals, ensuring a deep understanding of evolving legal standards.
  • Prepare litigation strategies and collaborate with senior attorneys on case development.
  • Participate in inspections of defective parts and machines as necessary for case evaluations.
  • Draft concise research articles and assist in firm client communications, including newsletters and presentations.
  • Oversee and mentor junior attorneys and support staff, preparing them for future advancement within the firm.
  • Contribute to client relationships and firm growth through active involvement in client meetings and case strategy discussions.
  • Uphold the firm's commitment to high standards of professionalism and client service.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Missouri State Bar (additional Illinois Bar admission a plus).
  • Prior experience in civil litigation is preferred, especially in insurance subrogation.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for drafting motions, preparing legal arguments, and client interaction.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple complex cases simultaneously.
  • Ability to independently handle trial preparation and court appearances.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and the desire to grow into a senior attorney role.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Missouri (additional certification in Illinois is a plus).
