Duties

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications in various technical fields.
  • Draft patent applications that clearly describe complex inventions, with a focus on legal support for patentability.
  • Conduct patent prosecution to secure allowances, maintaining clear and concise records.
  • Advise clients on patent law issues, including subject matter eligibility and proactive strategies.
  • Manage client relationships, meeting both their needs and budgetary constraints.
  • Collaborate in a team-oriented setting with opportunities for client engagement and ongoing training.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in patent application preparation and prosecution.
  • Proven experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications, with sample work to demonstrate proficiency.
  • Familiarity with current patent law issues, especially subject matter eligibility, and the ability to develop strategic approaches.

Education

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Science.

Certifications

  • USPTO registration number and good standing with the USPTO (for Patent Agent candidates).

Skills

  • Strong technical background, especially in computer software, machine learning, or wireless telecommunications.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to describe complex inventions and draft persuasive patent prosecution documents.
  • Self-starter with proactive communication and career management skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a desire to work in a collegial environment.
