Job Overview:
A well-established law firm in Los Angeles, CA, is seeking a skilled Post-Conviction Relief Attorney to join its team. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with experience in criminal defense or immigration law to further their career by working on a wide range of post-conviction relief cases. The ideal candidate will have litigation and/or appellate experience and will work closely with a supportive team while managing client interaction and caseloads.

Location:

  • Los Angeles, CA

Duties:

  • Advise clients on their legal rights and prepare legal documents for post-conviction relief cases.
  • Handle post-conviction relief matters, including motions to vacate, expungements, motions to reduce sentences, and early termination of probation.
  • Attend motion hearings and provide strategic advice to clients following hearings.
  • Assist in handling open criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing for other criminal attorneys within the firm.
  • Manage court appearances, draft motions, interview clients, and conduct legal research.
  • Analyze probable case outcomes using knowledge of legal precedents.
  • Manage a caseload and meet all deadlines.
  • Provide legal analysis to clients regarding potential benefits and case strategies.

Requirements:

  • Experience in criminal defense or immigration law.
  • Experience handling criminal cases at the state and local level.
  • Strong team player, willing to collaborate, strategize, and assist fellow associates.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is strongly preferred, but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on client service.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of post-conviction relief processes, including motions to vacate, expungements, and sentence reductions.
  • Strong criminal defense or immigration law experience.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analysis skills.
  • Strong verbal communication and courtroom skills.
  • Ability to manage a high caseload and meet tight deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Collaborative, client-focused approach.
