Job Overview:

A prominent recruitment firm is seeking a highly motivated Associate Attorney for a hybrid position with a leading law firm in the Greater Chicago area. The firm specializes in eminent domain and commercial litigation, offering attorneys the opportunity to represent various units of Illinois government as a Special Assistant Illinois Attorney General. While prior experience in eminent domain is beneficial, comprehensive training will be provided to ensure success. This role offers a unique blend of virtual work with in-person court appearances and trials across the six-county Chicago Metropolitan area.

Duties:

  • Represent various government entities as a Special Assistant Illinois Attorney General in eminent domain cases
  • Handle a caseload that includes eminent domain and complex contract and tort litigation
  • Appear in court for motions, hearings, and trials, including first-chair bench trials
  • Participate in virtual meetings and collaborate with the legal team via Zoom
  • Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents
  • Work closely with senior attorneys to ensure excellent representation of clients
  • Engage in governmental licensing litigation as part of the firm’s practice

Requirements:

  • Trial and litigation experience, especially in commercial or public service law
  • Willingness to learn and practice in the area of eminent domain
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate in a virtual environment with in-person appearances for court
  • Passion for public service and representing government entities

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active Illinois Bar membership (required)
  • Appointment as a Special Assistant Illinois Attorney General (will be provided with role)

Skills:

  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple cases effectively
  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail
