A law firm seeks a dedicated and motivated Entry-Level Immigration Attorney to join their team in Chicago, IL. Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel on immigration matters and explain complex concepts to clients.
  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals, including non-detained and detained individuals.
  • Manage and prioritize a caseload of diverse immigration cases.
  • Conduct intake sessions with detained individuals at immigration centers.
  • Prepare various immigration applications, including family-based immigration petitions and removal defense filings.
  • Review and revise immigration applications and packets to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community organizations regarding changes in immigration law.
  • Meet with potential clients for initial consultations and develop tailored immigration strategies.
  • Work with clients and witnesses to prepare them for court hearings or USCIS testimony.
  • Analyze legal matters to identify potential benefits for clients.
  • Draft and submit legal briefs for a wide range of immigration cases.

Requirements:

  • 0-3 years of experience practicing immigration law.
  • Strong ability to manage a caseload and move legal cases forward efficiently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and colleagues.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian cases, EOIR, Detained clients, Citizenship, and other USCIS applications.
  • Familiarity with case management software is preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the state where you are applying (preferred: Illinois).

  • In-depth understanding of immigration law and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to identify key issues in legal documents.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously.
