A law firm is seeking a highly skilled Litigation Innovation Attorney to support its innovation efforts in enhancing the delivery of legal services within the Litigation business unit. Reporting to the Global Head of Practice Innovation, the successful candidate will work closely with Litigation leadership and team members to optimize client service, streamline legal processes, and drive technological advancements. This role is based in Wheeling, WV, and is ideal for an experienced litigation attorney with a passion for leveraging technology to improve legal practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Innovation Leadership:
    • Lead and support initiatives to enhance client service delivery and operational efficiencies within the Litigation business unit.
    • Develop and implement best practices for utilizing resources and technology to optimize team performance and task management.
    • Oversee projects aimed at digitalizing the practice, including automation, data capture, and online resource utilization.
  • Technology Integration:
    • Vet, pilot, and support the onboarding of legal technology, including automation tools and data analytics.
    • Spearhead the rollout and adoption of new legal technologies within the business unit.
    • Design and improve solutions for sharing matter metrics and data with clients and internal teams.
  • Workflow and Process Improvement:
    • Design and implement matter management workflows, including intake, staffing, timekeeping, and billing compliance.
    • Create tailored solutions such as dashboards, workflow automation, reporting, and budget tracking.
    • Develop and maintain knowledge libraries, databases, and platforms to enhance collaboration and information sharing.
  • Data and Analytics:
    • Support the firm's data strategy by tracking matter data, monitoring practice content usage, and capturing experience data.
    • Utilize data to inform future matters and improve service delivery.
  • Training and Education:
    • Oversee the development and delivery of training on client solutions, practice technology, and resources.
    • Educate attorneys and legal professionals on practice content, technology, and other initiatives to improve service efficiency.
  • AI and Automation:
    • Support the integration of AI and generative AI into legal practice, including workflow automation and document management.
    • Evaluate and implement innovative solutions to enhance service delivery and efficiency.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Communicate effectively with attorneys, paralegals, staff, and clients regarding practice content, efficiency, and technology.
    • Develop case studies and marketing materials to support business development and client engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited university or college.
    • Admission to practice in good standing in a US jurisdiction.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a litigation attorney in a large law firm.
  • Skills:
    • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle various tasks with limited standardization.
    • Familiarity with legal technology and best practices for managing workflows and communications.
    • Understanding of knowledge management, practice management, and project management principles.
    • Excellent analytical, project management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and innovation.
    • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with a positive and diplomatic demeanor.
    • Flexibility to travel as necessary and willingness to assist with other projects and initiatives as needed.
