State And Local Tax Attorney

A law firm in McAllen seeks a State And Local Tax Attorney to provide expert counsel on a range of legal matters, including state tax issues. This role requires strong analytical skills, effective communication abilities, and the capability to work collaboratively within a team.

Duties:
• Advise clients on sales, use, franchise, property, and other state and local tax matters.
• Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations pertaining to state tax issues.
• Collaborate with colleagues and clients to develop effective legal strategies.
• Represent clients in negotiations, hearings, and other legal proceedings as needed.

Requirements:
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admitted to practice law in State Bar.
• 10 years of experience in state and local tax law.
• Strong understanding of ERISA compliance, pension, and retirement plans.
• Familiarity with health and welfare plans, fiduciary governance, and nonqualified deferred compensation plans.
• Excellent academic qualifications with a focus on tax.
• Exceptional communication and writing skills.
• Proven problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Preferred Skills:
• State administrative tax experience.
• Prior experience working with private and government clients.
• Knowledge of relevant software and legal research tools.

Education and Certifications:
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the State Bar Association.
