Job Title: Labor and Employment Attorney

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Stillwater, MN is seeking a skilled Labor and Employment Attorney to provide comprehensive legal counsel to both private businesses and public entities. This position offers an excellent opportunity to engage in diverse legal work, from advising clients on labor and employment laws to managing complex litigation cases. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of federal and state employment laws and will play a key role in shaping the firm’s growing practice.

Duties:

  • Act as external general counsel for businesses and public entities, advising on all aspects of labor and employment law.

  • Provide expert legal advice on key federal and state employment laws, including ADA, ADEA, FMLA, NLRA, Title VII, FLSA, and relevant state regulations.

  • Draft, review, and revise employment contracts, policies, employee handbooks, and other legal documents.

  • Advise clients proactively and handle employment-related disputes through all stages of litigation, including investigation, discovery, depositions, motions, mediation, and trial.

  • Communicate complex legal concepts clearly and confidently, ensuring clients receive timely and effective legal guidance.

Requirements:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in Minnesota and/or Wisconsin and good standing with the bar.

  • Proven experience or demonstrated interest in labor and employment law.

  • 2-6 years of labor and employment law advising and/or employment litigation.
  • Strong entrepreneurial drive with a proactive approach to networking and expanding the firm’s client base.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to navigate the complexities of labor and employment law.

  • Strong research, writing, and communication abilities.

  • Proven ability to manage client expectations and maintain long-term relationships.

  • Ability to provide sound, professional legal counsel under pressure.

  • Dedication to educating others through training sessions and seminars on labor and employment topics.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in Minnesota and/or Wisconsin.

Skills:

  • Expertise in labor and employment law, including litigation and advisory.

  • Experience with union negotiations and labor-management relations is a plus.

  • Experience in conducting workplace investigations is highly preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong legal research and analysis capabilities.

  • Detail-oriented with a strong ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
