A law firm in New York City is seeking a Junior Private Clients (Trust and Estates) Associate Attorney with 2-4 years of experience in estate planning. The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in drafting trusts, wills, healthcare directives, and powers of attorney. Basic knowledge of applicable estate and gift taxes is essential, along with proficiency in estate administration procedures. Experience in establishing, advising, and dissolving non-profit organizations is a plus. Strong written and oral communication skills are necessary, and the candidate must be admitted in New York State, with admissions in New Jersey and/or Connecticut considered a plus.

 

Duties:

  • Draft trusts, wills, healthcare directives, and powers of attorney for clients.
  • Possess basic knowledge of applicable estate and gift taxes.
  • Proficient in estate administration procedures, including preparation of probate papers, estate tax returns, review of fiduciary income tax returns, and settlement of financial accountings.
  • Provide legal advice on the establishment, operation, and dissolution of non-profit organizations.
  • Collaborate with clients and senior attorneys to develop comprehensive estate plans.
  • Stay updated on changes in trust and estate laws and regulations.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support client cases.

 

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in trust and estates at a reputable firm or bank.
  • Admitted to the New York State Bar; admissions in New Jersey and/or Connecticut are a plus.

 

Education:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

 

Skills:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in estate planning and administration procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable estate and gift tax laws.
  • Experience in non-profit organization establishment, operation, and dissolution.
  • Legal research and analytical skills.
