A law firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking a Tax Associate Attorney with 3+ years of experience in tax compliance, controversy, planning, estate plan drafting, and administration. The ideal candidate will possess strong fundamental skills in taxation relevant to private clients, along with excellent communication, drafting, writing, research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills. Preferred qualifications include a JD degree, and additional backgrounds or certifications such as LL.M., CFP, CPA, MBA, MST, Law Review, CPA, or Business Law Journal experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Handle tax compliance matters for individual and business clients, including preparing and reviewing tax returns and filings.
  • Advise clients on tax controversy issues, including IRS audits, appeals, and litigation.
  • Assist in tax planning strategies for clients to minimize tax liabilities and optimize financial outcomes.
  • Draft and implement estate plans, including wills, trusts, and other estate planning documents.
  • Administer estate strategies, including probate proceedings and trust administration.
  • Conduct legal research on complex tax issues and provide written analysis and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys, accountants, and financial advisors on client matters.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the state Bar in Illinois or eligibility to waive in.
  • 3+ years of experience in tax law, preferably in public accounting or law firms.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Illinois Bar or eligibility to waive in.
  • Preferred: LL.M., CFP, CPA, MBA, MST, or other relevant certifications.
