Job Overview:
A well-regarded law firm is seeking an experienced Tax & Benefits Career Attorney to join its Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation (EBEC) practice. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of experience in employee benefits law, focusing on tax-qualified retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and compensation matters. The role involves collaborating with client teams and directly interfacing with clients, requiring strong communication skills, a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks, and a willingness to learn and grow within the field.

Location:

  • Atlanta, GA

Duties:

  • Drafting plan documents, amendments, summary plan descriptions, and other participant disclosures.
  • Tracking year-end amendment requirements to ensure compliance with IRS and DOL regulations.
  • Reviewing and negotiating vendor agreements.
  • Monitoring legislative and regulatory changes, summarizing their implications for client plans.
  • Assisting with the correction of plan errors, including preparing IRS and DOL filings.
  • Supporting transactional work, including compensation and benefits-related due diligence, and preparing disclosure schedules.
  • Preparing and reviewing materials for fiduciary committee meetings.
  • Analyzing client inquiries, conducting research, and providing written responses.
  • Contributing to thought leadership initiatives, such as client alerts and business development efforts.
  • Maintaining the group’s knowledge management resources, including databases and document collections.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in employee benefits and executive compensation law.
  • Experience with tax-qualified retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and incentive compensation matters is preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to monitor and ensure timely amendments of client plan documents.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across teams and interface directly with clients.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Licensed and in good standing in the state of practice.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the bar in the state of practice.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and research abilities, particularly in interpreting complex regulations (e.g., ERISA, Internal Revenue Code).
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents related to employee benefits.
  • Effective in managing client relationships and working collaboratively within teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
