A law firm seeks a skilled Municipal Law Associate with 3-5 years of experience to join its team of professionals. The ideal candidate will have expertise in municipal transactional law, including advising public agencies on regulatory compliance, land use, and other public sector legal matters. The position offers flexibility with remote work options, although attendance at public meetings will be required as part of the role. Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel to public agencies on various municipal law matters, including land use, zoning, public safety, and conflicts of interest.
  • Draft and review key legal documents such as ordinances, resolutions, and public notices.
  • Advise clients on compliance with open meeting laws, public disclosure requirements, and other regulatory concerns.
  • Represent clients in administrative hearings and other legal proceedings.
  • Guide public agencies on matters of election law, including ballot measures, candidate qualifications, and campaign finance.
  • Attend public meetings and offer legal guidance to ensure compliance with legal obligations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and clients to address evolving legal challenges in municipal governance.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in municipal law, with a focus on transactional matters.
  • Proven ability to handle a wide range of municipal legal issues, including land use, open meeting laws, and conflicts of interest.
  • Experience with drafting ordinances and resolutions, and providing legal guidance on public agency matters.
  • Comfort with attending and advising during public meetings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in California.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex cases.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the State Bar of California.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of municipal law, including land use, zoning, and public agency regulations.
  • Expertise in drafting legal documents such as ordinances and resolutions.
