Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking a Biotechnology Patent Prosecution Associate with a minimum of 2 years of experience. This role involves managing and prosecuting biotechnology patents for a wide range of clients. The successful candidate will be a key part of the team, providing strategic patent advice and driving patent filings.

Location:

  • Washington, D.C.

Duties:

  • Handle all aspects of biotechnology patent prosecution, including patent filings and responses to office actions
  • Conduct patentability, validity, and freedom-to-operate analyses
  • Draft and review patent applications, and engage in client consultations
  • Develop and manage patent portfolios for clients in the biotechnology sector
  • Assist clients with strategic advice related to intellectual property
  • Prepare legal opinions regarding patent rights and infringement
  • Represent clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • Collaborate with technical teams and clients to ensure accurate patent representations

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in biotechnology patent prosecution
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Proven ability to handle complex patent matters independently
  • Ability to interact effectively with clients and technical teams
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • U.S. bar membership
  • Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Skills:

  • Expertise in biotechnology patent law
  • Exceptional patent drafting and legal writing skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple cases
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient in patent portfolio management
