Job Overview: A law firm is seeking an experienced and dedicated Criminal Defense Attorney to join its team. The ideal candidate will provide legal advice and representation to clients facing criminal charges, with responsibilities including negotiating plea bargains, drafting motions and pleadings, and representing clients at hearings and trials. Additionally, the firm handles civil personal injury and civil rights cases, where the attorney may also assist in preparing civil presuit documents and some civil pleadings. The role is based in Miami, FL with occasional travel for out-of-state or county cases.

Location:

  • Miami, FL

Duties:

  • Analyze and interpret laws, rulings, and regulations to develop defense strategies
  • Advise clients on legal rights, options, and potential courses of action
  • Prepare and file motions, pleadings, and other necessary legal documents in court
  • Negotiate plea bargains with prosecutors
  • Represent clients at hearings and trials
  • Gather evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare cases for trial
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients
  • Travel to out-of-state or county cases as needed

Requirements:

  • Graduation in the top 25% of law school class
  • Participation in Law Review and/or Editor/Writing Experience
  • Experience in Mock Trial or Trial Advocacy
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Florida
  • 3-5 years of experience in criminal defense law (civil experience is a plus but not required)
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% for cases

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Florida State Bar (Required)

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of criminal law and legal procedures
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills
  • Strong negotiation and trial skills
  • Effective communication and client management abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in preparing civil presuit documents (preferred)
